Apple Names Insider Sabih Khan as New COO

Cupertino, CA—July 9, 2025— Apple Inc. has named longtime executive Sabih Khan as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). This marks a major leadership change for Apple. The company is preparing for the eventual departure of current COO Jeff Williams. Williams has held the position since 2015.

Sabih Khan, who has been with Apple for 29 years, currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Operations, in which he is a major player in establishing and overseeing Apple’s supply chain worldwide. Apple claims that he will start his new job later this month.

“Sabih has been instrumental in driving innovation across our supply chain and ensuring that we deliver the highest quality products to our customers around the world,” said the CEO, Tim Cook, in a statement. “He’s a brilliant strategist and a trusted leader with deep knowledge of Apple’s culture and values.”

Khan was hired by Apple in 1995. He has managed crucial operations since the release of the flagship Apple products such as the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. The promotion to COO puts him among the top Apple executive team. Historically, this position has been an escalation to higher levels. It was even Tim Cook who held it before becoming the CEO.

Jeff Williams, regarded as one of Tim Cook’s most trusted associates and a potential successor, will remain at Apple for the next few months to aid in the transition. He will oversee important initiatives related to health technologies, as well as the Apple Watch. He will manage the Apple Watch before he retires.

Industry analysts see the news as a confirmation of Apple’s trust in maintaining security while quietly preparing an upcoming generation of leaders.

Khan’s appointment also draws the spotlight on the importance of his South Asian heritage, which is a further boost to the presence of diverse leadership across Silicon Valley. Khan attended Tufts University to obtain degrees in mechanical engineering and economics. He was born and raised in India.
