Former President Donald Trump blamed AT&T after a system error disrupted his major conference call with religious leaders. The call was part of his outreach efforts before the 2024 elections. A delay of over half an hour was caused by audio issues.
Disappointed by the interruption, Trump took to social media to criticize the company. In a post on Truth Social, he posted, “AT&T is totally unable to get their equipment working correctly. It’s a shame. We might be switching providers for the next calls.”
The incident quickly garnered attention online, with a lot of speculation about possible service issues. The company AT&T immediately responded, denying the responsibility.
In a statement made public, AT&T said, “Our initial review indicates that the issue originated from the third-party conference call platform used during the event—not the AT&T network.” The company did not identify the platform but did say that the network was functional and stable.
By rescheduling the call, the organizers gave Trump the opportunity to speak to religious leaders about important topics like Christian values and religious freedom. Trump’s campaign has not made further comments on the glitch.
This incident highlights the challenges of large-scale digital communications in high-stakes situations. While Trump supporters were angry, some also supported AT&T and made the point that technical issues can be attributable to conferencing platforms instead of networks.
It’s not the first time Trump has made public comments about major corporations. Recent comments by Trump sparked debates regarding the reliability of tech and accountability for platforms, particularly at crucial campaign events.
Despite the glitch, the call ended with Trump reiterating his dedication to communities of faith and indicating that additional outreach events will be planned in the near future, possibly using a new telecom company.
