AMD has made a giant step toward the market for AI hardware with the introduction of its most advanced platform to date—Helios, which is an all-rack AI server. AMD’s newest MI400 accelerator chips power Helios, and they improve the efficiency and effectiveness of AI computation.AMD announced this new technology at its widely publicized “Advancing AI” event. The event’s chief executive, Dr. Lisa Su, introduced AMD’s most recent AI plan and explained the objectives to increase efficiency. Additionally, she described how users can scale the most sophisticated AI applications with Helios. AMD’s announcement demonstrates its increasing capabilities and its commitment to lead in the development of AI infrastructure.

The Helios system can support as many as 72 MI400 chips in a rack, offering high-performance computing designed for large-scale AI models. It is able to power advanced artificial intelligence as well as next-generation computational AI applications that are highly efficient. AMD created the server to compete with NVIDIA’s top-of-the-line AI systems. It is a system that focuses on open standards and a flexible integration, which gives AMD an advantage in enterprise and hyperscale deployments.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman joined Dr. Su on stage to show appreciation. He confirmed OpenAI will use AMD’s latest AI chips. Altman said, “AMD’s advancements provide the scale and efficiency we need.” He also emphasized the importance of diversifying chip makers. The AI chip market has long been dominated by NVIDIA.
